Welcome

EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT (EITC) FOR WORKING FAMILIES

EITC Carolinas exists to help low- and moderate-income working families reclaim and keep their earnings at tax time. We are a statewide resource network designed to help communities help their working families. Membership in the network is free and provides access to free resources, training, and promotional materials.

Eligible taxpayers in North Carolina lose between $93 million and $176 million of their own money each year because they do not claim federal taxes due back to them through the Earned Income Tax Credit. Some working families lose even more money because they pay high fees for tax preparation services and short-term, high-interest, refund anticipation loans.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to improve the financial well-being of low-income working families. We do this by supporting community volunteer groups that provide no-cost or low-cost tax preparation services to working families and thereby enable families to reclaim and keep their income through the federal Earned Income Tax Credit.

New Outreach Materials for 2008!

Additonal outreach materials available in our outreach and publicity section.

ATTENTION! The IRS has changed the way it interprets the rules for qualifying children. If you are an adult providing support for a non-relative child who lives with you for at least half the year, you may be able to claim that child as a dependent under certain circumstances.   Only the child may be claimed as a dependent, but not the child’s parent. This change will be in effect for the current tax season! For more information about who is eligible, please visit the Internal Revenue Service website at  http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-08-05.pdf.
